The logistical problems of a lack of ships and equipment have become routine and are generating difficulties such as rising freight costs and constant surcharges, affecting the entire global foreign trade sector. The scenario is considered a “perfect storm” because, in addition to the imbalance between supply and demand in the market (where whoever has the gold commands the price), there are delays in releasing cargo, as well as extraordinary events - such as the Covid-19 outbreaks. Experts point out that the problem is likely to continue until 2022 and, faced with this scenario, we have seen “small giants” embracing the idea of venturing into maritime transportation (acquiring their own fleet) as an alternative to circumvent the crisis. Is this the way forward?
