The global crisis over chips and the impact on Comex

The unscheduled closure of factories around the world as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic has had a number of impacts on the logistics market, especially with regard to chip production. The crisis directly affected the operations of major technology companies, making it necessary to stop manufacturing their products.

The growing number of home office workers meant an increase in demand for electronics, such as laptops and smartphones. So, as demand was higher than expected, factories were unable to fulfill orders. This led to price increases ranging from 5% to 250%.

In Brazil, the price increase was up to 280% and the delivery of raw materials produced by the factories was delayed by up to six months. The lack of semiconductors exerted pressure on Brazilian companies.

It is hoped that there will be improvement and stability in the second half of 2022.
