What makes international freight more like a game of life and death?
EPISODE 1: THE BLACKOUT. First half of 2020 - With the crisis generated by the Cov1d19 pandemic, the world is faced with the global paralysis of industries. The breakdown in supply chains was like a domino effect, as world governments opted for the lockdown system in order to contain the spread of the virus. Shipping routes were interrupted and difficulties in the global transport of goods that depended on containers became more and more frequent.
EPISODE 2: THE AUCTION. Second half of 2020 - The growth in global demand has left the market almost on the verge of global logistics disorder: changes in services and routes, lack of equipment, exorbitant international freight rates that make hundreds of operations unfeasible, among other impacting factors. We are entering a time when we are witnessing auctions of the ‘highest bidder’ type.
EPISODE 3: WAR OF THE TITANS First half of 2021 - The saga of Episode 2 continues... We then see a real war of the titans emerging in the background: on the one hand, the giants of the world market (importers/exporters) - who are considering having their own means of transport/equipment, either by purchasing or chartering - in order to achieve some independence and supply the increasingly scarce markets, and on the other, the giants of world transport (shipowners) - who, between mergers and investments in new areas, are expanding their domains to the airline industry, while many of them are in crisis due to the lack of cargo and passengers.
EPISODE 4: PROFESSIONAL LAG. Second half of 2021 - The impacts of the pandemic continue. Many of our masters are no longer with us, and there are few left of those who had the opportunity to live with and learn from the departed. The market feels the need for experienced professionals with a global vision. With the commercial blackout and the suspension of school, technical and vocational activities that humanity has gone through, many young people have not had the chance to learn properly or to learn new professions. Humanity will feel the Professional Gap in the medium and long term, impacting all sectors.
EPISODE 5: THE PERFECT STORM. The future of humanity - Experts from various fields study events in an endless search for predictability. Environmentalists, scientists, artificial intelligence experts, doctors, engineers, administrators and others (many of whose professions are likely to disappear or be replaced in the next few years) are increasingly appearing in documentaries, assessing trends in what they call ‘The Perfect Storm’.
And in this real-life series, after Blackouts, Auctions, Titans, Professional Gap and Perfect Storms, many are asking themselves: ‘What will become of small and medium-sized businesses during this game of life and death?’.
